Who is an Entrepreneur?

With the current trend of every person wanting to do something “different” and with the Government of India announcing several schemes to benefit start-ups, being an Entrepreneur is now a Trending option for both freshers and experienced workers. However, how many of us really know who an Entrepreneur is? Or rather how many of us have what it takes to be an Entrepreneur in the real sense of the word?  An Entrepreneur is not merely a businessman who sells products that are “different”. Neither is he a research scientist who designs or develops a “unique” product, nor is he a marketing professional who has an “unexplored” idea about how to sell the product at hand. The Fact is that he is a combination of the above three, and much more. He may have a product that is different, but again it might just be that he is able to see another angle of a regular, every-day product and may be able to present it to his customers using that as as his USP. Also, he has to have a little streak of insanity in him, a little bit of madness to take him beyond the realms of practical business mindedness, to see if his product is adequately designed to meet current user expectations or if there is a small innovative change that may help him, for a start, to ease a bit of that discomfort. But most importantly the innovation lies not as much in the product as much as the perspective, and being able to create an emotional connect between the consumer and the product through personalized marketing  and hands on customer service. These three essentials, in collaboration with other skills like being an agreeable risk taker, being acutely perceptive to the business environment around, being annoyingly persistent in your efforts, being openly shameless about your initial profits and loss, and finally being overwhelmingly compassionate towards your customers and employees are what make the an Entrepreneur successful legends of the business world.
