There are some moments in life that one does not forget. These moments are recalled and the pleasure they give is immense. Like words worth says “When oft on my couch I lie, in the vacant or pensive mood they flash upon the inward eye which is the bliss of solitude”. Such are my memories of my first year at the Anand International College of Engineering, ranked amongst the top 10 engineering colleges in Jaipur.

My first day at one of the best B-tech colleges in Jaipur

I distinctly remember my first day at college. I was nervous and jittery about what would happen as there were hundreds of students on the grounds waiting for the induction to begin. We were being given a fortnight of training and induction classes which were to align us with the academic calendar and the faculty.

There was an air of apprehension about how each student would introduce himself to the crowd. I could see students practicing their pitches while filming themselves to see how they would look and sound on stage. Some of them were going to the extent of writing their brief speeches.

There were others re-creasing their trousers and shirts and giving their shoes that extra shine. The atmosphere was charged with activity and it seemed that the day would have some exemplary performances in terms of introductions and we would get to see some out-of-the-box examples of creativity. There was a complete façade of colors on the grounds.

The start of an incredible journey

Fifteen days went past in a jiffy and we reached the day when our classes started. Our classrooms were technology savvy, complete with overhead projectors and sound systems.

The teachers were senior and very qualified professors who were extremely well versed in the art of teaching. Our first lessons in Engineering started with a common syllabus for all the students as well as personality grooming classes by trainers who had trained very senior corporate professionals in a variety of corporate protocols.

We were made to go through experiential training techniques which included activities like glass walk which took our breath away. It would be very difficult to forget this activity as well as the men who made it possible.

Beyond Academics – Engineer’s life in a B-tech college in Jaipur

Steadily as the days progressed, we were given a chance to choose the clubs that we wanted and I had a tough time selecting one as there were so many choices. There were 14 types of activities being practiced.

I finally zeroed in on Photography which was very close to my heart. The college would give us insights on every Saturday on our choice of hobby. This used to be a great day for all of us as we were allowed to wear informal clothes and study complex cameras. I slowly got a hang of the Nikon Pro and today, thanks to these hobby classes I am well versed in the art of photography.

The end of every year was a time to celebrate because there would be the annual fest and the technical fest. These programs were extremely well-rehearsed and virtually all students participated in some activity or the other.

The annual cultural fest Echoes was a massive celebration with all of us preparing for music and dance events and dramatics. I participated in the fashion show which was very professionally organized. Choreographers were teaching us the steps and flow of our dance moves and Directors teaching us the acting skills for our skits and plays. There were dress rehearsals and our training department was full of colorful costumes. There was hectic activity all around while some students were practicing anchoring scripts while others swirled to enigmatic music beats.

Then, came the Technical Fest Corona, which is also one of most awaited fests in this B-tech college of Jaipur and a challenge for the seniors. They had to make their models and present them to other students visiting the campus. This required many days of preparation while making and constructing working models. The day of the festival was marked by hundreds of students and faculty from other colleges coming to see these wonderful inventions.

In comes February and there was sports in the air. The college started gearing up for the annual sports day. Every sport is right from Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Throw ball, Badminton, 100-meter races, Table tennis, Chess, Kabaddi, cycle races. I mean you name it and it was there.

There was hectic activity on the campus as student sportsmen and women marked their presence. The air was full of kicked-up dust and shouting for their favorite sports figure. Young men and women lined up on the college grounds waiting for their names to be announced against their event. Sweat and muscle were the highlights of the day with extreme effort going into winning.

Two days of great sporting ended with the award ceremony and teams going into frenzy after they were announced winners.

Back to studies

March, was our time to get back to the academic curriculum with equal excitement and with the motivation of giving our best to it.

My first year in this B-tech college of Jaipur was marked by some great experiences and events that have become the Kodak moment of my life. A path-breaking year and a milestone that would remain etched in my heart forever.
