The whole world is suffering from coronavirus; in these difficult times, we need to stay strong and stay together. Coronavirus is affecting not only our lifestyle but also the world’s economy. Many global organizations are claiming that there will be a big loss in GDP. So now the most common question that pops to the minds of new graduates is how will this affect jobs for them?

In this degrading economy where some companies are abandoning their employees and some are cutting off their allowances, some companies that are still with their employees and have no plans for lay-offs in the near future. 

The same is happening with the newly hired graduates who were placed in companies through company’s college placement drives. College placements start in the mid of November and go on till the mid of January and the students get placement in their dream companies but with the way coronavirus is spreading, the future only looks bleak. We know that the novel coronavirus is having a worse effect on world’s economy and it is difficult to say that what will happen to the jobs of these newly graduates.

Getting placed in a company is going to be a difficult task in 2020, where colleges will try every trick up their sleeves to get their students placed in the right companies, there will be a fear of lower placement rates as well.

Amid coronavirus every company in the world is trying to play safe and use their existing resources to the fullest rather than spending on the new ones.

According to the market stats, the tier-1 colleges are likely to witness a cut down of 5% in the placements this year and the tier-2 and tier-3 colleges will be suffering a cut down of around 50% for this year’s placements.

However, the tier-1 companies like Amazon, Wipro, Infosys etc have revealed that not only they will not fire any of their employees but also increase the recruitment.

The tier-2 and tier-3 companies have to make some tough choices about their employees. TCS has said that they will increase their recruitment number to around 39,000 in the financial year 2020-21, also Infosys will offer 18,000 new jobs and Wipro will send appointment letters to approximately  20,000 newly hired graduates this year. Clearly, these tech giants don’t want to abandon their hired students.

Some international brands like JP Morgan, Salesforce, SAP, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and others that have strong Indian presence have taken a 90-day no lay-off pledge assuring employees of their jobs while the lockdown continues.

Challenges

So in this situation, the newly hired graduates will suffer the following challenges:

1. Fewer Choices:

 When the whole world will be suffering from the economic crisis there will be fewer or no jobs available, in that time getting any job which can provide bread on the table will become one’s priority regardless of their choices.

2. Difficulty in Finding Jobs:

As the market will be down globally, there is a possibility that new jobs will dry up and job hunting will become all the more difficult. Though, associating with the top-most institutions can still be helpful to secure a job.

3. Getting a Job Abroad:

 The whole world will be suffering low GDP, in these times all countries will try to provide jobs to their citizens first, in order to do so they will stop recruiting personals’ from other countries, and getting a dream job abroad will become quite tough.
