Time Management: Simple Tips

Have you ever reached the bus stop just to see your bus and regretted getting late by a few seconds? Have you rushed to submit an important examination form and reached the submission counter a few seconds after it has closed down? Have you ever woken up in cold sweat, in the middle of the night, scared by the nightmare of reaching your examination hall late the next day, and being debarred from entering the premises? Being late is a scary thought that has plagued everyone at some point or the other. This is because Time is one such factor that is constantly on the move. It does not wait for anyone. No matter what happens, planned or unplanned the clock ticks on incessantly. That’s why Time Management has prime importance in our lives. Infact Being able to manage your time effectively is one of the key attributes of a successful Organizational Head. But how is it possible to achieve everything in just 24 hours? Since we cannot control time, the only way is to schedule ourselves such that we can accommodate ourselves to the constant flow of time. The following tips may help us in managing our time effectively and getting our chores done smoothly:

  1. Spend atleast 10 minutes in bed thinking of all that you need to accomplish during the day, as soon as you wake up.
  2. Follow this up by spending 5 minutes in noting down everything in your diary. For this always keep a small pocket diary handy, which can also be carried by you wherever you go
  3. Remember to prioritize the works enlisted by you so that the most important works get done first. This way you will also get a rough idea of how long your work day will actually be.
  4. Don’t skip your breakfast. In case of a busy day ahead, carry some light lunch or fruits for a handy midday meal. Skipping your meals may make you feel lethargic or weak and disturb your work routine.
  5. Also, when planning tasks that involve outdoor travelling or visiting external organizations, keep a bit of spare time in your schedule to accommodate delays caused by traffic or other factors.
  6. Make sure to cross out each work after its completion. Seeing a list that is gradually emptying itself, acts as a confidence booster.
  7. Follow the Sun Down Rule. Make sure that all your work is completed by the end of ‘your’ day. Incase you cannot complete it, or have an unresolved client issue make sure to convey to the client (and your diary) that you shall resolve the matter on priority, the next day. And make sure you do!
  8. Last, and most importantly, do not mess with your night sleep regime worrying about the next day. Remember an undisturbed sleep and a fresh start to the new day are vital to getting your chores done timely and perfectly.
